‘Cancel culture’ is a huge issue on the internet today, and more and more people are getting ‘cancelled’ after doing something that others don’t agree with, leading to them being ostracised on social media.
Usually, it’s celebrities and people in the public eye who get ‘cancelled’, but the latest person to fall victim to ‘cancel culture’ isn’t actually a person at all, it’s a fictional character.
Kenma, a character from the Japanese manga series Haikyu!! is being ‘cancelled’ on Twitter, but what did he do? Here’s what’s going on.

WHO IS KENMA?
Kenma is a fictional character from the Japanese anime TV show Haikyu!!.

In the show, he is a university student who has made a lot of wealth through his career as a stock trader, professional gamer, YouTuber and CEO of his own company.
Haikyu!! is a series written and illustrated by Haruichi Furudate that follows the story of Shōyō Hinata, a boy determined to become a great volleyball player.
The series has been running since 2014, and as of 2020, it had 50 million copies in circulation.
WHY IS KENMA ‘CANCELLED’?
On Wednesday (March 10th), Kenma started trending on Twitter as people started saying that the fictional character was ‘cancelled’ but why?
Well, it’s all because of a line he said in the TV series.
In an episode of Haikyu!!, Kenma said “If you get boring I’ll drop you” and it’s been met with some criticism online.
Fans of the show are saying that the line is ‘toxic behaviour’ and as a result, began ‘cancelling’ him on social media.

Following Kenma’s ‘cancellation’, a number of Haikyu!! fans have taken to Twitter to react, and it’s safe to say people think it’s totally stupid seeing as he’s not even a real person!
One person wrote: “Kenma getting cancelled is probably the funniest thing PLEASE why is my man getting cancelled. Let my man not exist in peace HE IS NOT REAL.”
“WHY IS KENMA GETTING CANCELLED LMAOOOO HE DOESNT EXIST BYE,” wrote another.
Another person said: “Kenma (as in 2d fictional character from haikyuu) getting cancelled on Twitter? I’ve truly seen it all.”
